This week we were tasked with creating a simple cube in Maya, bringing it into Unreal Engine 4, creating and assigning material instances, adjusting scenes lighting, and creating a small level.

I decided to play with my cubes to create a more... organic scene. I chose this subject as a sort of homage to my first "game engine" environment. I wanted to keep the simplicity of the cubes for the models and play around to create a small forest scene with a little waterfall and pond. I enjoyed playing around with the different attributes on the material instances to create different levels of reflectivity and roughness and then see how the lighting interacted with them in real time.
The biggest hurdle was learning my way around UE4. I would like to do more research into the interface to help streamline the process and clean up my outliner and groups. I am excited to learn more about the nodes to create stylistic materials and have them update in real time with lighting!
